Mastercard earns a small percentage every time their debit or credit card is swiped in a shop or used online. The small fee is typically around 0.11% per transaction and is splitted between Mastercard and the acquirer (your bank).

Mastercard's history

The company behind Mastercard (Interbank Card Association) was founded in 1966. It was rebranded as Mastercard in 1979 to simplify their business brand. Mastercard has more than 10.000 employees around the world.
